Anti Choking Device LifeVac Review. Does LifeVac Work? Can It Save My Kid`s Life?
You don’t want to feel helpless when your kid chokes on a small piece of food or a little toy, right?
If you’re a parent, you’ve most likely heard of such a thing as LifeVac. I often see their ads on the Internet.
Half a year ago, I got a LifeVac Home Kit, which, luckily, I have never used. In this post, I will express my opinion about LifeVac, what cons I saw in it, and answer the question: “Is it worth the money?”
If you want to know a parent’s opinion on the value of LifeVac, read my post to the end, and you will find out what I think LifeVac is missing.
So, I’ve known about LifeVac for quite a long time, as I’ve often seen their ads on Facebook. But since I am a little skeptical and not inclined to trust the advertisements, I didn’t pay attention to this device.
But nevertheless, now I already have 3 LifeVac devices.
Why did I decide to buy it anyway?
I didn’t.
I was still skeptical, and when I really needed to learn how to provide first aid in case of asphyxiation, my wife and I decided to take a CPR course. For those who have not yet taken such a course, I highly recommend doing so.
If you are a parent and still do not know how to give first aid in case of asphyxiation, sign up for the next CPR course tomorrow. Don’t try to find out about it on the Internet from YouTube videos. You need a real instructor and real practice on a dummy.
A little later, I will write an overview of the place where I myself took CPR courses and advise how to choose the right one, but now this is not the case.
I was very surprised when at the end of the course, we were given a LifeVac Home Kit.
How? CPR Instructor Recommends Using It?!
Well, at that moment, my skepticism gave way to interest.
But I realized that despite what someone recommends, I must make sure that this thing does not let me down at the most crucial moment.
The first thing I decided to do was, of course, to try it on myself. Yes, yes, I put a piece of cookie in my mouth and tried to “suck” it out of there.
It felt a little strange. But still, a piece of cookie flew out of my mouth like a cork.
Yes, there is a nuance: the mask must fit the size of the face (fortunately, it comes with larger and smaller masks) and press tightly against the face to create a vacuum.
But it works.
Of course, in case of emergency, I’ll first use the skills I learned in the CPR class and call 911 if needed. But if that doesn’t work out, LifeVac will be my backup first aid.
By the way, it is quite well made. It doesn’t stink with Chinese plastic, and the parts look good and reliable. Of course, it would be nice if the case was bigger, but that is not so important.
So, Would It Work In An Emergency?
I don’t know. But I feel like it’s better to have it if something happens and Heimlich/CPR doesn’t work while I’m waiting for an ambulance. Since I have attended infant and adult CPR classes, I’d probably use these methods first.
The Forbes article below convinced me that LifeVac is legit.
Link to the article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/ninashapiro/2019/06/23/anti-choking-device-is-saving-lives/
It includes a confirmed account of a woman who used it to save her baby. It is also linked to a convincing UCLA study in which Lifevac was tested on cadavers with excellent results. “A simulation study of a PNSD demonstrated 94% reliability in retrieving airway foreign body, while a similar cadaveric study demonstrated 98% reliability, with both studies approaching 100% success rate after multiple attempts.”
People love to say, “It’s not FDA approved.”
According to this article, “the product hasn’t technically been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, but that’s because the FDA doesn’t approve products like this. It falls into a different class of products like neck braces and crutches, which only need to be registered, which LifeVac is.”
There are a few people in Amazon reviews who think it won’t work. But only one person gave some details, saying they’d used it. However, there are many five-star reviews, including people who said they’ve used it successfully and who seem to have legitimate accounts (after a quick look at the reviews).
In general, I am satisfied with this LifeVac, except the one thing.
Educational materials and instructions. No, of course, there are instructions for the LifeVac, and on the Internet, you can find many ‘how to use it’ videos.
But wouldn’t it be great if the guys from LifeVac could teach us how to prevent suffocation in general?
After all, children do not suffocate for no reason; often, it is due to improper cooking or eating or because small things get stuck in the child’s throat.
I’m sure it would be a great honor for them.
Not only to take care of our children when they are already in a life-threatening situation but, in the first place, to help us keep our children out of such situations.
That is why I decided to design such a guideline by myself to inform on how to PREVENT such situations.
Simple, clear, with illustrations. Which you can print and always have with you, give to your friends, to your child, or to a kindergarten teacher.
Do You Want Me To Send You This Guide?
If you really want to make sure you’re not helpless in situations where your child chokes on a piece of LEGO or a too big piece of chicken stuck in their throat, buy a LifeVac Home Kit.
It includes 3 kits: one I keep at home, the second one is always in my car, and the third I gave to kindergarten.
Here on the site, you can buy it now with a discount: link.
